Held on Saturday, May 6th, the 27th annual educational spring outreach event, affectionately known as “Animal Crackers” hosted by the Department of Animal Science, filled Morrison Hall with over 200 participants traveling from nearly 34 different counties in New York State. The workshop series was once again organized by a planning committee of campus and county based Cooperative Extension 4-H Educators in cooperation with Department of Animal Science staff and was designed to encourage youth to engage in science themes related to animals.

4-H Alumni and current Cornell Animal Science freshman recently joined forces with Jarra Jagne, D.V.M. ’90, a senior extension associate at the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine for a Science Cabaret lecture called “THE HUMBLE CHICKEN, GALLUS GALLUS DOMESTICUS”. Jagne and Lukach offered technical details on the physiology of chickens, chick embryonic development, the wide variety of breeds and discussed the importance of 4-H – a New York statewide youth development program that Cornell manages.
Cornell Cooperative Extension, Cornell University, and the NYS Horse Program are proud of all the youth who participated in this educational event…they were all winners before they got here…they are the best in NYS!! The youth, parents, coaches, and staff were all wonderful – we had a GREAT DAY!!
